A dear friend of mine invited me to write an article for this magazine, on the topic of oneness and unity. Subhanallah there’s so much that can be said on this topic, about the oneness of Allah (swt), the unity of the ummah, and what we can achieve with said unity. Everything that’s happened in these past two months and continues to happen as we speak, has been a stark awakening for all of us to unsubscribe from the Dunya and remind ourselves of the oneness of Allah.
It is He alone we worship, He alone we ask for help, He alone who hears our calls, He alone who sees us all, spread around every corner of the world. In order for our world leaders to pay attention, we are required to organise marches in the largest numbers we can achieve, we need to be loud to limit every possibility of them ignoring us, but Allah alone sees and hears every single one of us at all times. Whether we are marching together or alone in the dark, whether we are standing on the roofs of buildings, or crying for help buried under rubble, Allah alone hears us all, Allah alone sees us all, Allah alone can aid us all. If He chooses to answer my dua it does limit His ability to answer yours, answering the duas of every person in England takes absolutely nothing away from Allah’s ability to answer every dua made in Turkey, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, and all over the world.
Do not be Disunited! But If It Does?
When we are disunited when we are spread out and caught up in the distractions and the desires of this Dunya, it is Allah alone who truly witnesses the state of the ummah, and it is Allah who has sent us all a wake-up call – this Dunya has nothing to give that will be of true benefit, these people we try to please on a daily basis can not benefit us in the slightest unless Allah (swt) allows them to. It is Allah alone we all need to turn to, it is Allah alone who unites us all.
We are Ummah
My sister in Turkey reading this now, I do not know you, but I know you are believe in Allah (swt), and that unites us more than anything else possibly can. As an ummah, we are united across the globe through our belief in Allah (swt), but where that belief has been weak and waning, our disunity has grown and divided us. Now Allah (swt) has sent another awakening for all the hearts of mankind, the likes of which many of us haven’t witnessed in our lifetimes.
As we see many people reverting to Islam, their hearts now alive and beating after seeing the firm imaan of our brothers and sisters in Palestine in the face of bombs and tanks and guns and their world shattering around them once again, it is time we look to own hearts. It is time we remove the covers we have placed over them, and reconnect with our Rabb. It is only through connecting to Him, can we truly connect to each other on a level that extends beyond the realms of this world. It is only through connecting with Him and His Kalaam that we can understand the wisdoms of pain and tragedies (e.g. the wisdoms of the battle of Uhud in [3:166,167]).
It is through our imaan, our belief in tawheed (the oneness of Allah (swt), our collective turning to Him, that we can recognize this belief and this pain and this calling in one another, that we can truly empathise with one another, stand up for one another, fight for one another, and most importantly, make heartfelt dua for one another, for our brothers and sisters in Palestine, with the same vigour and passion that we would if they were our flesh and blood. Truly our unity through our belief in Allah (swt) extends beyond the ties of flesh and blood, it ties us together through thick and thin, as the sahabah were tied to one another, devoted to one another, to Rasulullah (saw) and ultimately Allah (swt), through every trial and calamity that they faced, every torture they were subjected to and every helpless moment they experienced.
What can We Do?
Thus, we must awaken our imaan, renew our tawheed, and unite our hearts together for Allah’s sake alone. We must never forget each other, and never allow our surroundings to blind us from what connects us all. We must hold firm to our deen, be fearless in our stance, trust in Allah’s plan, and rely on Allah’s aid. We ask the Turner of Hearts to turn our hearts adhere firmly to His religion, we ask that Allah grant us the tawfeeq to unite as an ummah and stand up for the oppressed all around the world, we ask that Allah uses us, individually and collectively, to call people to the truth and fight for justice. We pray Allah accepts it from us and unites us all in Jannatul Firdaus.
May Allah (swt) accept all of those who have lost their lives. May He grant strength, tawakkul, and a beautiful patience to all those living through this genocide, and may Allah grant complete victory to our brothers and sisters in Palestine!
Any good that comes from this is from Allah, and any wrong is my mistake alone, I ask Allah to forgive my shortcomings.
